I've been gaming for a good while and have been looking forward to GA for over about a year now. I too am one of the believers that hope this will fill the empty spot in my heart that Planetside left so hollow. Until then, I'm killing time with the LoL and HoN beta's.

Haha I never played Planetside but I hear it was pretty good. I do understand what you mean though. DAoC did the same thing to me.

HoN is pretty fun though, no complaints about it for me, but I don't hear to many good things about LoL.

Coming from a non DotA background, I found HoN to be a breath of fresh air. After getting over the complete noob stage, the game is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. About LoL: Some guy on the HoN chat offered a LoL key for a HoN key, I had a few laying around and figured I might as well give that one a shot too. After comparing the two, I find HoN to be more polished and accordingly more like DotA 2.0 as it has been said, but LoL is fun in it's own right. It's taking the DotA concept and not copying it exactly, there are no carbon copy heroes there what so ever. Like some heroes don't have any mana so all you have to worry about is your health, it's odd. I like them both and at this point in time I'm not going to choose one or the other. HoN is polished with nice visuals, but I find LoL more fun to play even though it looks like it was designed by a 12 year old on acid.

Interesting. Do you know if the guys who have been working on DotA are involved in either of these projects? With as big as DotA got, I figured it was only a matter of time before someone decided to cash-in on it.

S2 is making HoN and Riot Games is making LoL. I doubt either of them are using DotA designers. HoN is keeping it close to DotA as possible, but still being its own game, with new heroes and what not. LoL designers said in a video interview that LoL was introducing a new gaming genre, MOBA, massive online battle arena, and didn't give credit to DotA at all. Only issue I really have with LoL.

HoN = Dota clone. Basically Ice Frog gave permission to anyone to make their own Dota Game and HoN completely took advantage of that. Most of the heros are just named differently, and have different attack names but have the same exact moves and balance as Dota. Wsa pretty pissed HoN went as far as they did with the copy catting. LoL on the other hand is still based off Dota but is noticeably different with abilities and strategies. So if you want to play HoN, in my opinion, you should just stick with Dota unless you need to have better graphics because Dota gameplay and balancing is still superior to HoN.

Icefrog have given permission to S2 gaming, and he is now working for Valve, making a "real" DotA 2.0.
