This is my first weekend in beta, and so far my PvP has been limited to the arena.  Granted I only played a couple of matches so I am still green, but dang, PvP is hard unless you are a Recon.  I am not suggesting Recons are easy...I tried one too (besides my medic and assault) and they definitely need skill.  But survivability went way up just being able to get in, kill, and get out quickly.  My medic and assault went down in a flash...maybe I am just doing something wrong.

Still, I guess there is a reason that in the arena there was 2 medic, 1 robotic, 2 assault, and 8 recons...Recons definitely rock at PvP.

But that worries me...if the gameplay for PvP is stilted towards recons, and more people play recon for that reason, won't that unbalance the game?  I was a bit disappointed at how easily Medics go down (it is actually pretty difficult to self-heal I found)...then again I suppose they are the "squishies" of the GA universe.

I hope in organized AvA games with players working together it will be a bit better Smiley

Still, it was pretty fun in there...

Actually let me re-ask my question...

I see how recons are very useful in PvP both with a stealth+melee or sleath+sniper build.

What is less clear to me are the PvP builds for Medics and Assault, and since I spent most of my first day doing PvE I didn't really get a feel for how PvP should work.

For example, should Medics go full heal in PvP, or is Poison useful?  My use of the Poison aura didn't seem to result in much.  For Assault, it seemed using a weapon that slows you down (like the Minigun) meant instant death in the arena (although it sure was fun mowing people down that got caught in the crosshairs).

Another question is melee...if a melee recon jumps on you, is it better to melee back or just jump-pack out?

Like I said, arena was my only PvP experience in GA, and even that was brief.  One problem in there was that there was no team-work, and it was easy for the recons to catch single people by themselves.  I hope to get into an agency when the AvA stuff goes live.

OH, and ilkhan, you were right...I sure did find out why Assault and Medic were harder Smiley

I must say of the classes I created and planned to play I did stick with the recon purely because it seemed/is easier to play PvP wise.

Well I didn't really get a chance to play much today, but the little playtime I got I fooled around with my Medic build and hung out in the arena to test it out.  Plus I took some time to tweak my button layout (which always helps).  Anyway, my survivability went way up, and I actually got some kills.  One thing I brushed up on was blocking...it actually works quite well against the sword-flayers Smiley

It would seem that I just needed some practice time in the arena to get used to the controls a bit more.  I never had a chance to get onto an organized team for the AvA, but I bet it was fun Smiley

Next time...

I'm actually switching from Recon to Medic after this weekend. I really don't enjoy playing Recon at all.

I switched from Assault to Recon this phase.... wanted something new to try. Gotta say. When using the 360 controller, Melee Recon is extremely fun. I still like the assault tho.

And WTF was with Robotics this beta weekend.... worst I've seen in awhile. They had the strongest gun (With Knockback), and their turrets were worse than ever. Plus there was an over abundance of them haha.

Still a fun fix weekend tho... Now I'm ready for AVAAAA

Yeah I am seeing  discussion on the main beta boards about groups of Robotics working together to basically wipe out everyone...sounds like people didn't see that coming...

I only played Assault this past weekend, and that was a big bummer. I think everyone killed me and there was no specs that really made me feel like I was doing a whole bunch.

I didn't play much in general though, I spent most of the time collecting data to put into the skill calculator. I'm hoping to post that by the end of the week to check out.

I think in the next week or so I'll put up a build of the new site if anyone would like to give any feedback.
